Happy 4th Birthday, Sophia!

For Sophia's 4th Birthday we had a Royal Tea Party, and all of her friends came as a different princess. Sophia was Rapunzel, we had Belle, Ariel, and Cinderella - it was a lot of fun! We also had the pleasure of having a Prince in attendance, Prince Evan!

The Royal Tea Party is ready to begin.

Can you say spoiled?

Welcome to the castle...

Of course every castle has a red carpet leading to the throne!

Wesley wanted to be a guard in the castle, so we let him :-)

How does your garden grow?

My name is Lillie, and I am obsessed with my garden.

I have always heard about people gardening, but me? No, no way. Outside, bugs, dirt, and the stress of knowing what everything is, how to care for it, pulling weeds, etc.

I always KNEW I would NEVER be the gardening type... never say never.

I love it... I love the sunshine, the feeling when I see my produce growing and my flowers blooming.

This is my first time having/working a garden... ever. I'm not perfect, but I'm learning as I go. So far, so good.

Here are some pictures of my beautiful garden and some of the fruit that I've gotten from it so far!

Just some of the strawberries from my patch. They are so sweet and juicy, and NOTHING like supermarket strawberries.

A petunia plant my sweet neighbor brought to me. SO thoughtful, and so appreciated. When I lay out and get some sun, I love smelling the flowers!

I thought this was a green apple tree - nope, RED! RED APPLES! Pie, crisps, applesauce, apples and peanut butter, apple butter... etc etc!

My watermelon. Yes, I know I will need to transplant this... we are just getting it started in here and I will get it into my bigger garden (I've been pulling weeds, moving flowers/plants around to make room for some more produce).

Cilantro. So small... I thought maybe weeds came in... I took a leaf, broke it in half, and wow... it's the freshest smelling cilantro I have ever smelled! I sure am excited to make my first batch of salsa from the stuff in my garden!

We have so many strawberries!

The large part to the left is the strawberry patch, then to the right are cucumbers, onions, radishes, lettuce, pumpkins, etc.

My apple tree!

Beautiful flowers in the flower garden.

My tomato plant, and I just planted some hot peppers, bell peppers, carrots, and more tomatoes!

So pretty!

A picture of the back of our house. I love my home :-)

She's is so MY daughter! She was digging into some chocolate frosting.. mm!

One of the strawberries from our garden... they are so delicious! They taste MUCH better than any store bought strawberry.

My friend Gina pointed to me that I have a huge rhubarb plant next to my garden. I thought it was a weed - I'm so glad she told me it wasn't! She gave me a great recipe for a Rhubarb Cake... so... I made it from scratch with fresh rhubarb from our garden. It was such a great feeling to make something from fresh produce in our own yard!

Yummmmmy!

A beautiful sunset tonight... I snapped a couple of pictures.

One of our gardens, it may look small, but it's got about 9 different things growing in it :-)

Sophia was dancing with Just Dance 3... she was really good!

Look at that HUGE weed!

Oh, wait... that's not a weed, that's rhubarb! I'm making a pie tomorrow! Being a homeowner has been such a blessing in my life. I finally feel like I have things to do. Getting the ground ready for the garden, planning it, planting it, watering it and checking on it, and of course, using what I grow to make food for my family. I also enjoy pulling weeds, trimming my bushes, cleaning the pool, etc. When fall comes I look forward to the crisp days, preparing the garden for winter, lighting my pumpkin patch candles, and have our very own neighborhood to trick or treat in for the first time. Winter, it's long, but the snow will be beautiful! We can play in OUR snow in OUR yard! I feel busy, but I love the things I'm busy with. I'm also looking forward to visiting my mom in KY this summer. She's my best friend and always there for me. We love to stay up late, just the two of us, eating snacks, talking, laughing, crying, and just doing what mothers and daughters so - bond. I'm so blessed!

My first garden....

So, I really should post pictures, but every time I think of it, it's dark outside. I planted strawberries (already coming in and a couple of ripe ones that were yummy), cucumbers, cilantro, green beans, radishes, lettuce, watermelons, pumpkins, peppers, onions, squash, and tomatoes! It's my first garden and I'm learning as I go. Things are already starting to sprout and I'm so excited to see the fruit and veggies in a couple of months!! Another perk to being a homeowner!
